THOMAS R. SWAIN is Chief Financial Officer of GSI Lumonics Inc. Mr.
Swain, with over 30 years' experience in financial management and
business development for high-technology and manufacturing companies,
was appointed Chief Financial Officer for GSI Lumonics in 2000. Prior to
the General Scanning/Lumonics merger, he was Vice President of Corporate
Development with GSI. He served as CFO and CEO of View Engineering at
the time of its acquisition in 1996. His career started in public
accounting where he earned his CPA certification and includes a series
of financial management positions at division and corporate levels. His
experience covers a wide scope of business environments, including those
with sales levels up to several billion dollars, manufacturing and
service industries, domestic and foreign operations, startups and
