FRED TUROK, LA Fitness’ Chief Executive commenced his career as a
Physical Education Department Head in 1980. Five years later in 1985, Mr
Turok joined the David Lloyd Sports Club in Croydon which was
subsequently renamed The Surrey Tennis and Country Club. He was
responsible for building, developing and operating the club. In 1990 he
left to set up the Westminster Leisure Partnership with Jeremy Taylor
(now LA Fitness’ Operations Director), after acquiring the Westminster
Health Club in Victoria and Body & Soul in Kingston. In 1994, he merged
his operation with David Turner, transforming the Caf Sport squash club
in the City into a profitable health and fitness club. Following the
acquisition of the original LA Fitness club in Isleworth, the combined
operation was subsequently rebranded LA Fitness. Since it’s formation in
1990, LA Fitness has grown rapidly with its 26th club due to open in
November.
