James A. Cederna – Calgon Carbon Corporation

JAMES A. (JIM) CEDERNA has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Calgon Carbon Corporation since April 1999 and also serves as a member of its board of directors. Since 1996, Mr. Cederna had been president of Arizona Chemical and an officer of its parent company, International Paper Company. In that capacity, he led worldwide activities for the refining and sales of specialty chemicals derived from forest products. Prior to joining Arizona Chemical, he served as Chief Operating Officer of Columbian Chemicals Company, the world's second-largest producer of carbon black. While at Columbian Chemicals, he successfully implemented a high-growth, global diversification strategy, achieving record sales and earnings. Mr. Cederna began his career in 1973 as a technical representative with Dow Chemical Company. During his 22-year career with Dow, he held positions of increasing importance in research and development, sales, and business management. In his last assignment, he served as President/Chief Executive of FilmTec, a business specializing in water purification. A graduate of Central Michigan University with a degree in biology/chemistry, he was a scholar/athlete who played football in the Mid-American Conference. Mr. Cederna and his wife, Carol, have a daughter who is pursuing a career in graphic arts and a son who attends Central Michigan University. Profile
