HENRI A. TERMEER is Chairman and CEO of Genzyme Corporation. Mr. Termeer
joined Genzyme in 1983 and has led its transformation from a modest
entrepreneurial venture into one of the world's top five biotechnology
companies. Prior to joining Genzyme, Mr. Termeer held various management
positions over a 10-year period at Baxter Travenol (now Baxter's Hyland
Therapeutics Division) and was general manager of Travenol GmbH in
Germany. Mr. Termeer serves as a board member for a number of
biotechnology corporations, including Genzyme Transgenics Corporation,
ABIOMED Inc., AutoImmune, Inc., Diacrin, Inc.; and he serves as a
trustee for both Hambrecht & Quist Health Care Investors and Hambrecht &
Quist Life Sciences. Additionally, Mr. Termeer serves on the Boards of
Directors of both the Biotechnology Industry Organization and the
Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America. Mr. Termeer earned
an MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia. A native of
the Netherlands, he studied economics at the University of Rotterdam and
