STEPHEN BLOCH joined Canaan Partners in June 2002 as a Ewing Marion
Kauffman Fellow. Through his experience as a healthcare entrepreneur and
practicing physician, he focuses on how companies can add value to
patients and physicians. His investment targets include
biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics and healthcare
infrastructure. He is currently a board observer at CombinatoRx,,
Immunicon, Genaissance Pharmaceuticals (GNSC) and Amicas. Prior to
joining Canaan, he founded Radiology Management Sciences, a risk manager
of diagnostic imaging services for health plans and provider networks.
He also served as the medical director for Omnisonics Medical
Technologies, an emerging, medical device company focused on minimally
invasive, ultrasonic surgical devices for cardiovascular applications.
Additionally, he co-founded TeleRad, a teleradiology services company,
and was an initial investor in OpenAir.com, an enterprise software
company for professional services firms. Dr. Bloch was previously a
strategic consultant focusing on pharmaceuticals and medical devices
with Arthur D. Little and was a practicing radiologist. Dr. Bloch
received his medical training as a radiologist at The Massachusetts
General Hospital/Harvard Medical School and in internal medicine at The
Lenox Hill Hospital/ Cornell Medical School. He received his medical
degree from the University of Rochester. He also received a MA in
History of Science and Public Policy from Harvard University and an AB
degree in History from Dartmouth College.
