John A. Bennett

JOHN A. BENNETT is President and Chief Executive Officer, Engineer, Oil
Pollution Control Expert at Bennett Environmental Inc. He is a Chartered
Engineer, United Kingdom; Member of the Institution of Mechanical
Engineers, United Kingdom; Member of the Institution of Marine
Engineers, United Kingdom. As CEO and Chairman of the Board of BEI, Mr.
Bennett was responsible for the development of the thermal oxidizer that
is the core equipment that has resulted in BEI becoming a major supplier
of waste remediation services in North America. President and Founder of
Bennett Pollution Controls, Mr. Bennett was responsible for the
successful development and sales of many products used for oil pollution
control. Some of these products are offshore oil skimming vessels, in-
shore oil skimming equipment, oil containment booms of many different
types, and oil spill detectors. Mr. Bennett set up training programs for
Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (the Venezuelan National Oil Company) and
was Project Manager for a $900,000 contract to write an oil spill
contingency plan for PEDEVESA. Mr. Bennett was contracted in 1979 to
design and author Buyers Guide to the Selection of Oil Spill Containment
Booms and Skimmers for Exxon Production Research Corporation (Houston,
Texas) for use by Exxon associated companies, world-wide. Mr. Bennett
and BECL participated in the establishment of an oil spill training
school in Brazil. The initiation of a program for the development of a
National Oil Spill Contingency Plan for Brazil included establishing an
oil spill training school at Sao Sebastiao. BECL specified equipment and
student curriculum. He is the author and presentation of The Venezuelan
National Oil Spill Contingency Plan at the 1983 International Oil Spill
Conference in San Antonio, Texas, sponsored by EPA, API, and the U.S.
C.G. He established an oil spill training school in Alexandria, Egypt.
Mr. Bennett was the Founder and President (1988 ‘ 1991) of the Canadian
Environmental Industrial Association (CEIA). Co-Founder and owner of the
Globe series of Environmental Conference and Trade shows that take place
in Vancouver, BC, every two years since 1990.
