Joe Scarlett

JOE SCARLETT is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tractor Supply
Company based in Nashville, Tennessee. The Company operates 242 farm
stores in 26 states focusing primarily on the maintenance needs of
America’s farmers. Tractor Supply Company employs 2,800 people. Sales
exceeded $500 million in 1997 and the Company is adding 20 stores
annually. Mr. Scarlett joined Tractor Supply Company in 1979 as vice-
president of personnel and administration when the Company was
headquartered in Chicago. Subsequently, he managed Operations,
Merchandising and Distribution and was named president in 1987. He was
appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in February, 1992.
Previously Scarlett worked 15 years for Two Guys discount stores in the
northeast where he held a progressive series of management positions. He
and his wife, Dorothy, have two children and reside in Nashville.
