Joe Peterson

JOE PETERSON has been President and Chief Executive Officer of On
Assignment, Inc., since September 2001. Dr. Peterson, previously co-
founded and was Chief Executive Officer of three companies providing
innovative customer care to large institutional clients primarily in the
financial services industry; two were based in Toronto, Canada and were
successfully sold to Zurich Insurance, a client; and the third, based in
Washington, DC, was sold to Convergys, an industry leader. Dr. Peterson
began his business career as Medical Director and ultimately Chief
Operating Officer of World Access, Inc., a subsidiary of Blue Cross &
Blue Shield of the National Capital Area. In addition to his membership
on the Board of Directors of On Assignment, Dr. Peterson also serves on
the Board of the Global Health Council, the world’s largest membership
alliance dedicated to improving health worldwide. Dr. Peterson is a
Board-certified emergency physician, and practiced his specialty for 10
years in the Emergency Department of the George Washington University
Hospital, in Washington, DC, where he was an Associate Professor of
Emergency Medicine, and a Fellow of the American Board of Emergency
Medicine. Before arriving in Washington Dr. Peterson worked for the East
African Flying Doctor Service, in Nairobi, Kenya, and at the Royal
Victoria Hospital casualty service in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He
completed residency training in emergency medicine at the University of
Pittsburgh Medical Center, after earning a BA and MD in six years in the
Inteflex Accelerated Program at the University of Michigan Medical
School.
