Jay Forbes

JAY FORBES is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial
Officer of Aliant Inc. After graduating from Dalhousie University
with a Bachelor of Commerce, Mr. Forbes joined Doane Raymond
Chartered Accountants in Nova Scotia. He received his CA
designation in 1986 before joining Nova Scotia Power Incorporated
as the Corporate Controller in 1993. He became Chief Financial
Officer and Vice President in 1997, and added the position of
Senior Vice President and CFO of Emera Inc. in 1999. Mr. Forbes
joined Aliant as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial
Officer in February 2001 from his role as Executive Vice
President, Corporate Resources and Chief Financial Officer of
Oxford Properties Group Inc. Mr. Forbes is a member of the
Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Institute of
Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia, the Financial Executives
Institute and the Conference Board of Canada, Financial
Executives Council. He has been a member of the Board of
Governors of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and a member of the
Board of Directors for the Foundation for Heritage and Arts
Stabilization and Enhancement. He serves as Treasurer of the
Atlantic Provinces Economic Council, and he was honored in 1999
as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40. His continuing education has
taken him to Harvard University, Duke University, and the Centre
for Creative Leadership. He has lectured on Performance
Management, Technology and Financial Strategies in various North
American forums, including Harvard University.
