Jack Hermansen

JACK HERMANSEN ‘ Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. John Hermansen
holds a B.A. in Speech Communications and a B.A. in Linguistics from
Pennsylvania State University. He earned a Ph.D. (with distinction) in
Computational Linguistics from Georgetown University based on his
dissertation, “Automatic Name Searching in Large Data Bases of
International Names.” He is also qualified as a Certified Knowledge
Engineer. Dr. Hermansen has over twenty years of experience in
computational linguistics and knowledge engineering. He holds two
patents in the field and has written numerous papers concerning his
work. As a businessman, Dr. Hermansen successfully reorganized and
increased the value of three other small businesses prior to founding
LAS, including Georgetown University’s Language Processing Center, where
he began his seminal work on new approaches to name searching through a
University contract that he concluded with the U.S. Department of State
in 1984.
