John J. Hovis

JOHN J. HOVIS serves as Avnet Inc.’s Investor Relations Officer. He was
elected a Corporate Officer in 1999, and now reports to Raymond
Sadowski, Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Secretary Senior Vice
President for Avnet, Inc. Mr. Hovis joined Avnet in 1992 in the Avnet
selling organization before taking on corporate level duties. He held
successive positions as Business Analyst for the Business Process Re-
engineering Group and Manager of Planning and Analysis. From 1995 to
1997, Mr. Hovis served as the Creator and Director of Avnet’s
competitive intelligence center, the Business Information Office (BIO).
Subsequently, he was named Vice President and Director of Global
Strategic Planning. Mr. Hovis created and directed Avnet’s global
strategic planning and management process while managing both the
strategic planning and Business Information Office. Mr. Hovis holds a
PhD in Economics from the University of Wyoming. He taught Economics,
Finance and Statistics at the University of Maryland for many years
before entering the corporate community. He is a member of the National
Investor Relations Institute, the National Electronic Distributors
Association (NEDA) Industry Advisory Committee, the Society of
Competitive Intelligence Professionals, Strategic Leadership Forum, the
American Graduate School of International Management’s Beta Gamma Sigma
Chapter, and Phi Beta Kappa.
