Howard N. Kornblue

HOWARD N. KORNBLUE is Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager
of the Pilgrim America MagnaCap Fund. Mr. Kornblue joined Pilgrim
America’s predecessor in 1986 as Director of Equity Research, and
assumed management of the conservative, growth-and-income-oriented
MagnaCap Fund in 1989. A steady performer both in terms of assets and
performance, MagnaCap’s total assets stood at $287 million as of March
31, 1997. During his tenure with the former Pilgrim Group, Mr. Kornblue
was also Portfolio Manager for the company’s $40 million Corporate
Utilities Fund, and for its $20 million Rising Profitability small-cap
fund. Prior to that, he managed individual and institutional accounts
totaling $150 million for First Wilshire Securities Management,
specializing in small-cap equities. Earlier experience also included
responsibility for mergers & acquisitions at Getty Oil, and portfolio
management positions with Western Asset Management Co. ($300 million,
primarily investing in large-cap equities), and with Southern California
Edison ($30 million in pension funds, also invested mostly in large-
caps). Mr. Kornblue holds a B.S. in Engineering from the University of
California –Los Angeles, an M.S. in Management Science from the
University of Southern California, and an M.B.A., also from USC where he
was graduated first in his class. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and
Beta Gamma Sigma academic honor societies. He is also a member of both
the Los Angeles and Phoenix chapters of the Society of Security
Analysts, and is a Life Member of the California Scholarship Federation.
Married with one child, Mr. Kornblue’s interests include aviation,
sports, Broadway theater, travel, and "my 240Z."
