Deep understanding of the insurance industry on all levels, outstanding
leadership abilities, and a thoughtful, balanced approach to business
has made Ohio Casualty Corporation President and CEO DAN R. CARMICHAEL,
CPCU, a leading figure in the insurance industry. Mr. Carmichael joined
Ohio Casualty in December 2000 and was subsequently appointed as a
member of its Board of Directors. Prior to joining Ohio Casualty, he was
President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of IVANS
Inc. Mr. Carmichael continues with IVANS in his Board position. He
joined IVANS as President and CEO in 1995. Mr. Carmichael has been
instrumental in making IVANS the insurance industry’s foremost provider
of networking technology solutions, building the company’s network to
500 participating firms and more than 1 million users. Prior to joining
IVANS, he served as Chairman, President and CEO of the Shelby Insurance
Company. While at Shelby Mr. Carmichael seized the opportunity to grow
the business into Anthem Casualty Insurance, where he later served as
President and CEO. His earlier experiences include work with Crum &
Forster, a leading national insurer specializing in commercial property
and casualty products, where he was Executive Vice President of Field
Operations. Mr. Carmichael is active in industry events and has given
numerous speeches on insurance and technology issues. He is a member of
the Board of Directors of Ohio Casualty Corporation, IVANS, and
Alleghany Corporation. He is a trustee of The Griffith Foundation for
Insurance Education and on the Board of Trustees of the American
Institute for CPCU and the Insurance Institute of America. Mr.
Carmichael earned his CPCU designation in 1981. He earned a Master’s
degree from Emory University and completed his undergraduate program at
Florida State University. He also completed the Executive Program at
Stanford University.
