ROGER CHAPLIN is a Mining Analyst at Canaccord Capital. He graduated
with a B.Sc. in Maths and Statistics in 1969, and further gained an MBA
in 1979. He began his career in mining when he joined Gold Fields of
South Africa in Johannesburg as a mining analyst, after completing the
MBA. He first specialised in gold before moving on to coal and base
metals, eventually heading a team of five analysts. Returning to the UK
in 1987 he joined Laing & Cruickshank, where he broadened his research
to cover international mining. He moved with Tim Hoare from Credit
Lyonnais Laing (CL took over Laing & Cruickshank in 1989) in 1993, to
help set up T. Hoare & Co and now leads the team of mining analysts in
the London office. T. Hoare & Co has since merged fully with its
Canadian partner, Canaccord Capital Corporation. Profile
