JOSEPH M. MURPHY, President and CEO of Bar Harbor Bankshares and Bar Harbor Bank
& Trust, has devoted nearly 40 years to the financial services industry. Before
joining BHBT in 2002, Mr. Murphy was Executive Vice President of WSFS Financial
Corporation, a bank holding company, based in Wilmington, Delaware. He also
served in a number of executive capacities for over 20 years with Center
Financial Corporation, a Connecticut-based community bank holding company, now
part of Wachovia Corp. A native of New London, Connecticut, Mr. Murphy earned a
Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Ohio State University in 1965. Mr.
Murphy has been active in numerous civic, charitable and not-for-profit
organizations in Connecticut, Delaware and Maine including the United Way, The
March of Dimes and the United Cerebral Palsy Association. He is currently a
Trustee of The Maine Sea Coast Mission and Friends of Acadia. He is also a

Mr. Murphy: Bar Harbor Bankshares is a one-bank holding company
located in Bar Harbor, Maine. It was chartered in 1887.
