Thomas Karam – Southern Union Company (sug)

THOMAS F. KARAM, President and Chief Operating Officer of Southern Union Company, has served on the company's Board of Directors since 1999. Mr. Karam is a member of the Board's Executive Committee. Prior to being named to his current position in May 2001, from November 1999 to April 2001, Mr. Karam served as Executive Vice President of Corporate Development for the company, and President and Chief Executive Officer of its PG Energy division. Previously, Mr. Karam had been President and Chief Executive Officer of Pennsylvania Enterprises, Inc., from 1996 until 1999, when it was acquired by Southern Union. From September 1995 to August 1996, he served as Executive Vice President of Pennsylvania Enterprises, Inc. Before joining PEI and then Southern Union, Mr. Karam developed a strong background in utility finance and investment banking as Vice President of Investment Banking at Legg Mason, Inc., in Baltimore, and prior to that at Thomson McKinnon, in New York. He received Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Political Science from the University of Scranton. He serves on the Board of Directors of the American Gas Association and on the Board of Trustees of the University of Scranton.
