THOMAS H. TASHJIAN is a Senior Managing Director and Senior Retailing Analyst in the Consumer Group at NationsBanc Montgomery Securities. Previously, he was associated with First Manhattan Co., Seidler Companies and Prudential Securities. He was formally a retailing consultant for the City of New Orleans and an area manager for the Ayr- Way discount chain. A member of the AIMR speakers program, Mr. Tashjian earned his Bachelor's degree from Butler University and his M.B.A. from Tulane University. Profile
JEFFREY M. FEINER is a Managing Director at Lehman Brothers. He was previously associated with Salomon Brothers and Merrill Lynch. Mr. Feiner is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the National Retail Federation, the New York Society of Security Analysts, the Merchandising Analyst Group of New York and the Financial Analyst Federation. particularly for the department stores. Jeff, how do you define a

department store? Would you include Kmart or any of the big
