Managing a Small-Cap Fund in the South African Market

Vanessa van Vuuren joined Sanlam Investment Management — SIM — in March 2007, and is a portfolio manager and an equity analyst responsible for cross-sector small- and mid-cap equity research. From a portfolio-management perspective, Ms. van Vuuren manages the Small Cap Institutional Funds as well as the SIM Small Cap Unit Trust. In 2003, Ms. van Vuuren began her career in investments at Oasis Asset Management as an equity analyst, primarily focusing on researching industrial stocks and the small-cap sector. Prior to joining SIM, Ms. van Vuuren worked for a year in the Cape Town offices of the Dutch private bank Insinger de Beaufort conducting equity research as well as managing high net worth South African equity portfolios. Ms. van Vuuren holds two degrees from the University of Cape Town: a Bachelor of Business Science degree with honors, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree with honors in financial analysis and portfolio management.
