Lawrence S. Bloomberg – First Marathon Inc (fms.a)

LAWRENCE S. BLOOMBERG is President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of First Marathon Inc. He graduated from Sir George Williams University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and in 1965 received his Master of Business Administration from McGill University. In 1970 he was awarded the designation, Chartered Financial Analyst. He joined Nesbitt Thomson and Company in 1965, was appointed Head of Research in 1969, and subsequently became Vice-President and Director of Institutional Equity Sales. Mr. Bloomberg accepted the position of Vice-President and Director, Institutional Equity Sales in 1975 with Pitfield Mackay Ross Limited. In 1979, he was one of the founders of First Marathon Securities Limited. As a past member of the YPO, Mr. Bloomberg then joined the ranks of the XPO and the WPO and is now a member of the Chief Executives Organization. He is on the Board of Directors and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada, a past member of the Board of Governors of The Toronto Stock Exchange, and serves on the Board of Directors of several Canadian corporations. Mr. Bloomberg is a member of Canada's Business Council on National Issues; the C.D. Howe Institute; the Board of Trustees of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, Inc.; a Director of the Toronto International Film Festival Group; and a past Director of the Royal Ontario Museum and its Foundation. A past Governor of Junior Achievement of Canada; a member of the Board of Directors of the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care; a former chairman of the Toronto United Jewish Appeal; and an active participant in past United Way campaigns, Mr. Bloomberg was honoured with a Human Relations Award from the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews in recognition of his work in the community. Mr. Bloomberg is a Vice Chairman of Mount Sinai Hospital, a Director of the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation of Toronto, and Chairman of Mount Sinai's The Best Medicine campaign, which seeks to raise $100 million by the year 2000. Mr. Bloomberg is a founding member of Concordia University's Faculty of Commerce and Administration Business Advisory Committee. He also has received an Honourary Doctor of Laws from the University.
