WALLACE D. MALONE JR. is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SouthTrust Corporation since 1981, having joined the corporation in 1972 as President. Previously, he had been Chairman and President of what is now SouthTrust Bank of Dothan, Alabama. Mr. Malone is a native of Dothan, Alabama. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama and an MBA degree from the University of Pennsylvania. An active civic leader, Mr. Malone is a trustee of Samford University. He is a Director of the Business Council of Alabama, the Alabama Healthcare Council, the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama, the Salvation Army Advisory Board, the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama, the Greater Alabama Council Boy Scouts of America, and the EyeSight Foundation of Alabama and Ellen Gregg Ingalls Eye Research Institute, Inc.
