Stephen Sherwin – Cell Genesys Inc (cege)

DR. STEPHEN A. SHERWIN is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Cell Genesys, Inc. He joined Cell Genesys in March 1990. Dr. Sherwin has served as Chief Executive Officer since our inception and, in March 1994, was elected to the additional position of Chairman of the Board of Directors. Dr. Sherwin also served as President until July 2001, at which time Dr. Vallner was appointed President. From 1983 to 1990, Dr. Sherwin held various positions at Genentech, Inc., a biotechnology company, most recently as Vice President of Clinical Research. Prior to 1983, Dr. Sherwin was on the staff of the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Sherwin currently serves as the Chairman of the Board for Ceregene, Inc., a majority-owned subsidiary of Cell Genesys and a company that he co-founded in 2001. He was also a co-founder of Abgenix, Inc., a former subsidiary of Cell Genesys. Dr. Sherwin currently serves as member of the Board of Directors for Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc., and Rigel Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and also serves as a Board member of the Biotechnology Industry Organization. He holds a BA in Biology from Yale University and an MD from Harvard Medical School and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Profile
