Interview with the CEO and President: American Equity Investment Life Holding Company (AEL)

John M. Matovina is Chief Executive Officer and President of American Equity Investment Life Holding Company as well as a member of the holding company’s board of directors. Mr. Matovina joined the holding company’s board in June 2000 and began his employment with American Equity as a senior financial officer in June 2003. Prior to being appointed to his current positions in June 2012, he served three and half years as CFO and Treasurer. Mr. Matovina is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, and has a B.S. degree in business with a major in accounting. He started his professional career in public accounting auditing a variety of clients. One of his early clients was a couple of life insurance companies run by American Equity’s founder, Dave Noble. Seven years after their first contact, Mr. Noble recruited Mr. Matovina to be CFO of The Statesman Group, Inc., where they spent 12 years together before being reunited at American Equity.
