Daniel F. Akerson – Nextel Communications Inc (nxtl)

DANIEL F. AKERSON is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Nextel Communications, Inc., a McLean, Virginia-based wireless communications company. His positions became effective March 1996. Prior to joining Nextel, Mr. Akerson served as general partner of Forstmann Little & Company, a private investment firm, from 1993 to March 1996. While at Forstmann Little, Mr. Akerson also held the position of chairman of the board and Chief Executive Officer of General Instrument Corporation, a technology company acquired by Forstmann Little. From 1983 to 1993, Mr. Akerson held various senior management positions with MCI Communications Corporation, including President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Akerson is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and received a Master of Science degree from the London School of Economics.
