WALTER E. JOHNSON founded Southwest Bank of Texas in 1990. He is Chief
Executive Officer and Chairman of Southwest Bank, the largest
independent bank in Houston, with assets exceeding $2.5 billion and a
legal loan limit of $28+ million. The common stock is traded on NASDAQ
under the symbol SWBT. Mr. Johnson began his banking career in 1958 at
Factoring Services, Inc. He is a past President and CEO of Allied Bank
of Texas. In 1989, he left that position to raise $21.5 million in
capital from Houstonians to found Southwest. Mr. Johnson is a graduate
of Texas Christian University with a degree in Business. He is a
recipient of several honors for community service, including: Chairman’s
Award for Excellence in Fund Raising Leadership, Boy Scouts of America
(1990); City of Peace Award presented by the State of Israel (1990);
Outstanding Service Award for Leading a $14 Million Capital Campaign for
the Star of Hope Women & Children’s Shelter (1987). He and his wife,
Yvonne, have three children and five grandchildren. Mr. Johnson enjoys
bird hunting, fishing, traveling, woodcarving and collecting knives.
