ALAN KESSMAN is President and Chief Executive Officer of Vion
Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Mr. Kessman was appointed Chief Executive Officer
on January 12, 1999. His prior management experience has been primarily
in telecommunications and healthcare communications. Mr. Kessman was
named one of the Entrepreneurs of the Year in 1987 by Venture magazine.
Mr. Kessman's experience includes various leadership and Board positions
with some of the leading telecommunications companies, including Rolm
Corp., Octel Communications Corp. and Executone Information Systems,
Inc. Additionally, Mr. Kessman has successfully established and led two
startups and two turnaround situations. Mr. Kessman currently serves on
the Boards of Paragon Networks, International (wireless backbone
infrastructure) and Fastnet Corp. (business Internet services, web

Mr. Kessman: The company was formed in 1994, borne out of two merged
entities, OncoRx and MelaRx, both companies having
