ROBERT P. MADONNA is the founder, president, and CEO of Excel Switching
Corporation. Mr. Madonna is a pioneer in the programmable switching
industry, having been at its forefront since the early 1980s. As
director of engineering for Lan-Tel, Inc., he helped design the hardware
for a robust PBX switch. Since founding Excel, he has served as a
principal designer and has led the engineering effort that resulted in
the design of its family of open programmable switching systems. He is
very active in directing the company's daily operations, technological
focus, and strategic planning. An innovator in telecommunications, Mr.
Madonna is a regular speaker at a wide variety of industry conferences
and forums. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a
