Richard G. Reiten – Northwest Natural Gas Co (nwng)

RICHARD G. REITEN is the 2003 chairman of the American Gas Association and Chairman of Northwest Natural Gas Company. He joined Northwest Natural January 1, 1996, as President and Chief Operating Officer. Effective January 1, 1997, he was named President and Chief Executive Officer, and in September 2000 was also elected Chairman of the Board. With the election of a new president in May 2001, Mr. Reiten continues as Chairman of the Board. From August 1992 to December 1995, Mr. Reiten served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Portland General Electric, after serving as President of Portland General Corporation from January 1989 until July 1992. From July 1987 to December 1988 Mr. Reiten served as Director of the Oregon Economic Development Department and Chair for Development of the State of Oregon Strategic Plan. From 1971 until early 1987, Mr. Reiten served in a variety of executive positions with Hearin Products, which was acquired by the DiGiorgio Corporation. Mr. Reiten serves on the boards of directors for Northwest Natural, AEGIS Insurance Services, The Regence Group, U.S. Bancorp and Building Materials Holding Corporation. He formerly served on the boards of Portland General Corporation and Portland General Electric, and DiGiorgio Corporation, San Francisco. Mr. Reiten's civic activities include 1998 General Chair, United Way Campaign, and Past Chairman, Portland Chamber of Commerce and Association for Portland Progress. He continues to serve as a director of the Oregon Business Council. He is also a trustee of The Nature Conservancy of Oregon and the Portland Art Museum. Mr. Reiten's skill in dealing with the international business community led to his appointment in 1988 to the Intergovernmental Advisory Council to the U.S. Trade Representative in Washington, DC. Mr. Reiten holds a BA in Business Administration from the University of Washington and completed the Executive and Board of Directors Programs at Stanford School of Business. Profile
