R. Philip Silver – Silgan Holdings Inc (slgn)

R. PHILIP SILVER is Chairman and Co-CEO of Silgan Holdings Inc. Mr. Silver and Greg Horrigan founded Silgan in 1987. Silgan Holdings is a leading North American manufacturer of consumer goods packaging products with sales in excess of $1.5 billion in 1997. The Company operates 58 manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Canada where it is the largest supplier of metal containers for food products, a leading supplier of plastic containers for personal care products and a major supplier of metal closures for the food and beverage markets. Prior to creating Silgan, Mr. Silver was President of Continental Can Company, from June 1983 until August 1986. Mr. Silver served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Continental Group, Inc. from April 1981 until June 1983. He had previously served as Vice President, Corporate Planning for the Continental Group, Inc. and as Executive Vice President of that Company's energy subsidiary, Continental Resources Company. Prior to joining the Continental Group, Inc. in 1979, Mr. Silver held various positions in the paper, packaging and real estate operations of Boise Cascade Corporation. Profile
