JOHN W. HAYDEN is President and Chief Executive Officer of The
Midland Company, a Cincinnati, Ohio-based specialty
property/casualty insurance company. Midland's insurance
operations are known in the industry as the American Modern
Insurance Group. Mr. Hayden serves American Modern as Chairman,
President, and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Hayden joined
Midland/American Modern in June 1981 after receiving his MBA from
Miami University. He completed his undergraduate studies at
Northwestern University in June 1979. He has served on Midland's
Board of Directors since 1991. In addition to his duties at
Midland, Mr. Hayden serves on the Board of Directors of Ohio
National Financial Services, the Advisory Board for U.S. Bancorp
in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Board of Trustees of The College of
Mount St. Joseph, the Board of Trustees of The Greater Cincinnati
Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of Governors of The
Metropolitan Club. In addition, he is a member of The
Metropolitan Growth Alliance, The Center for Quality of
Management, The Commercial Club, The Recreation Roundtable and
