JOHN A. APPLEBY is Portfolio Manager of the Small Cap Value and Multi-
Cap Value portfolios and co-Manager of the Dean Small Cap Value Fund for
Dean Investment Associates. He joined the firm in 2002 and has over 18
years of prior investment experience, including senior portfolio
management responsibilities at City National Investment Advisors,
overseeing the investment process, equity analysis and portfolio
management for $300 million in assets; and at Palley Needelman Asset
Management, managing over $5 billion in large cap value assets. Mr.
Appleby earned BS and MBA degrees from the University of Southern
