Interview with the Chairman and CEO: Catamaran (CTRX)

Mark Thierer is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Catamaran. Mr. Thierer has been instrumental in redefining the way pharmacy benefits are managed by successfully merging two industry-leading PBMs — SXC Health Solutions and Catalyst Health Solutions — to create Catamaran, a $10 billion company scaled to drive significant client savings. Mr. Thierer joined SXC Health Solutions in 2006 as President and Chief Operating Officer and was named President and CEO in 2008, and CEO and Chairman of the board in 2011. Prior to joining SXC Health Solutions, Mr. Thierer led the evolution of Physicians Interactive, a division of Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Inc. As President, he repositioned the company from a supplier of electronic detailing to a full-service provider of online marketing and educational tools for physicians. Mr. Thierer also spent 10 years with CaremarkRx, now CVS Caremark Corporation, as a Corporate Officer and key executive in growing the company into a market-leading PBM and specialty pharmacy company. Prior to Caremark, he spent 10 years at IBM, where he held positions of increasing responsibility in sales management in the company’s health industry vertical. Mr. Thierer serves as the incoming Chairman of the board of directors of the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association, PCMA, and maintains active memberships in the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs, NCPDP; Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, AMCP; National Association of Chain Drug Stores, NACDS; and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, HIMSS.
