George K. Petty – Telus (bts.m)

GEORGE K. PETTY is President and Chief Executive Officer of TELUS. Prior to assuming leadership at TELUS in November 1994, he was Vice President of Global Business Services for AT&T and Chairman of the Board of World Partners, the Global Telecom Alliance. He enjoyed a 25-year career with AT&T, where he held various positions in operations, planning, marketing and sales, including Vice President, Western Region. He received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from New Mexico State University. He has been recognized by NMSU as a College of Engineering Distinguished Alumnus, and one of the University's 100 outstanding alumni. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Advanced Management Program. After graduation from New Mexico State, he served with the U.S. Air Force for four years. He was twice awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Petty is a Director of CAE, Inc. and of Research Technology Management, Inc. at the University of Alberta. He also serves as a member of the University of Calgary Board of Governors, the Business Council of British Columbia (BCBC) and the Business Council on National Issues (BCNI). Mr. Petty enjoys his affiliation with the arts community through his position as Chairman of the Board of the Edmonton Opera Association. Profile
