GEORGE L. CHAPMAN is Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and a Director of
Health Care REIT, Inc. Mr. Chapman began his legal career with the firm
of Dorsey & Whitney, Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was then a senior
partner in charge of the corporate finance group at the 140-person law
firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, with offices in Toledo, Ohio, Tampa,
Florida; and Charlotte, North Carolina. Mr. Chapman is a graduate of
Cornell University and The University of Chicago Law School. He is a
member of the Board of Trustees of the Medical College of Ohio and
