Eugene Gordon – Medjet Inc (mdjt)

EUGENE I. GORDON is Founder, Chairman and CEO of Medjet Inc., which develops surgery equipment. He is also Adjunct Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He is a well-known Scientist and Engineer. Dr. Gordon has over 65 US patents and has published about 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He is an elected member of the prestigious National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering), and has been awarded the IEEE Edison Medal (one of IEEE's highest awards) and the IEEE Zworykin Field award, as well as numerous other awards. He has been active professionally. He founded one IEEE Society, (the predecessor of the Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, LEOS), and two IEEE journals, (Journal of Quantum Electronics and Electron Device Letters), has served as Associate Editor of two IEEE journals, and been active in Publications and Awards for many years. He was a consultant for DOD and was Chairman of Working Group C of the Advisory Group on Electron Devices from 1970 ' 1981 and a board member of AGED from 1981 ' 1984. AGED is a committee of DOD. He graduated from City College of New York, Magna cum Laude, in 1952. After graduation from MIT with a PhD in Physics, he did a year of post-doctoral research and teaching there. He then joined the staff of AT&T Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, NJ in 1957. He had several promotions and eventually became a Laboratory Director in 1968. Dr. Gordon retired from AT&T in 1983 and founded Lytel, Inc. of Somerville, NJ, a manufacturer of lasers and optical transmission subsystems; he was Chairman and CEO. Lytel was acquired by AMP, Inc. (and is now a division of the company). He then joined Hughes Aircraft Company as Senior Vice President and Director of their Research Labs located in Malibu, CA in 1987. He also helped to found Taunton Technology of Monroe, CT, (now known as VISX on the NY Stock Exchange); a company that makes refractive correction equipment, based on excimer lasers. The latter is an outgrowth of his strong interest in medical uses of lasers, a research area to which he made early, important contributions; for example, Dr. Gordon invented the argon ion laser and developed it for use in diabetic retinopathy. He continues work in development of devices for ophthalmology at Medjet. He is on the Board of Directors of several biotechnology companies. Profile
