CARL E. JONES JR. was elected President and Chief Operating
Officer of Regions Financial Corporation in January 1997. He
assumed the title of Chief Executive Officer in January 1998 and
was named Chairman in May 2001. He was President of the Southern
Alabama Region from 1983 and president of the Louisiana Region
since the company's move into that state in 1994. He also held
the title of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Regions'
Mobile bank from 1981 to 1996. He was named President of the
Mobile bank in 1978. He joined the company in 1962. During his
term as President of the Louisiana Region, the company's presence
in the Pelican State grew from 14 offices in southern and
northern Louisiana to more than 59 banking locations throughout
