Roberta Lipson

ROBERTA LIPSON is CEO and President of Chindex International, Inc., a
provider of healthcare products and services to the China marketplace,
as well as Board Chair of Beijing United Family Hospital, the first
foreign invested hospital in China. Ms. Lipson has over 20 years of
experience in various aspects of the medical industry, including
pharmaceuticals, medical capital equipment and consumable products
marketing and distribution, and hospital management. She holds an MBA
from Columbia University and a BA in History from Brandeis University.
Ms. Lipson began her career at Schering Plough Corporation as a Medical
Product Marketing specialist. In 1979 Ms. Lipson joined Sobin Chemicals
in a position which brought her to live and work in Beijing. During this
time Ms. Lipson had the opportunity to see that there was a great need
for quality medical products in China, but, at that time, there were no
reliable sources for these products. Along with her partner, Chindex
Executive Vice President Elyse Beth Silverberg, Ms. Lipson was inspired
to work in this area and began Chindex. Since founding Chindex in 1981,
the company has expanded from its core business of medical capital
equipment sales and marketing to medical consumables, healthcare related
consumer products and, most recently, healthcare delivery. Ms. Lipson is
a recognized expert in the area of health care in China and has shared
this expertise in many forums. In 1998, Ms. Lipson authored the
healthcare section of AmCham-China’s Whitepaper on American Business in
China 1998-2001. Ms. Lipson frequently speaks on issues related to the
healthcare industry in China.
