Mark L. Walsh

MARK L. WALSH is the Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer of VerticalNet,
Inc., and has been in the interactive services/Internet industry for 15
years. Mr. Walsh joined VerticalNet in August 1997 as President and CEO,
and was appointed Chairman in July 2000. Previously, Mr. Walsh was a
Senior Vice President and Corporate Officer at America Online, where he
founded and directed AOL Enterprise, the business-to-business division
of AOL. Prior to AOL, he was the President of GEnie, the online service
owned by GE, and until early 1993, was the head of interactive services
at CUC International. Mr. Walsh has also worked in the cable television
business, with four years at Home Box Office in New York. Mr. Walsh
received his graduate degree from Harvard Business School, and his
undergraduate degree from Union College in Schenectady, NY. After
graduating from college, he was the anchorman and news director for a
CBS TV affiliate station, WDTV-TV. Mr. Walsh serves as a Board member of
the Software and Information Industry Association, is on the President’s
Advisory Group of the US Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the
Standard for Internet Commerce. He also serves on a number of corporate
and not-for-profit boards, including Union College, New York Times
Digital, Blackboard Inc., Worldwide Angler, Day Network, and Investor
Broadcast Network, among others. In 2000, Mr. Walsh was named one of
Business Week’s e.biz 25, and was recently named by Upside magazine to
the Elite 100, the 100 most influential people in technology.
