John H. Walker

JOHN H. WALKER is the President, Chief Executive Officer and Chief
Operating Officer of Weirton Steel Corporation, the eighth largest US
integrated steel producer. Mr. Walker was named CEO in January 2001. He
had been named President and COO in March 2000 and was appointed to the
Board of Directors shortly thereafter. He originally joined Weirton
Steel in 1988 when he was named Executive Assistant to the President. In
1990, he became the Director of Operations Planning at Weirton Steel
before assuming subsequent positions as General Manager of Operations in
1994 and Vice President of Operations in 1995. In 1996, Mr. Walker
accepted the position of Vice President of Operations at Kaiser Aluminum
in Spokane, Wash., and within one year was named President of its Flat
Rolled Products division. He remained in that role until his return to
Weirton Steel in 2000. Mr. Walker received his Bachelor of Engineering
degree from Virginia Polytechnical Institute and a Master of Business
Administration from Carnegie Mellon University. He also has completed
the executive development program at the University of Pittsburgh and
the Center for Creative Leadership. Mr. Walker began his business career
in 1980 as a Project Engineer for Corning Glass Works. After completing
his graduate studies, he became an associate with McKinsey & Co., a
global management consultant firm. Mr. Walker is a member of the
American Iron & Steel Institute and is an active volunteer with Habitat
for Humanity.
