James S. Mahan

JAMES S. MAHAN III is the co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of
Security First Technologies and co-Founder of Security First Network
Bank (SFNB), the world’s first Internet bank. In 1987, prior to founding
Security First Network Bank and Security First Technologies, Mr. Mahan
launched Cardinal Bancshares, located in Lexington, Ky., where he served
as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Before launching Cardinal, Mr.
Mahan spent several years with Citizens Union National Bank & Trust Co.,
initially serving as President, Chief Operating Officer and Vice
Chairman, then in 1984, moving into the roles of Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer. In 1986, Mr. Mahan formed an investment group that
purchased Citizens Union and sold it to Bank One Corp. of Columbus,
Ohio. Mr. Mahan began his career at Wachovia Bank & Trust Co. in
Winston-Salem, N.C., after graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in
Finance from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. He
spent 10 years working for Wachovia, where for several years he managed
its Southeast commercial bank as the youngest Vice President in
Wachovia’s history.
