Gwyn Morgan

GWYN MORGAN, a professional Engineer, is President and Chief Executive
Officer of Calgary-based Alberta Energy Company Ltd. Mr. Morgan holds a
Petroleum Engineering Degree as well as post-graduate qualifications,
including the Executive Business Program of Cornell University in New
York State. Mr. Morgan’s career has encompassed more than 30 years of
technical, operational, financial and management positions in oil and
gas exploration, production, marketing and pipelines. He held various
positions in the Canadian oil and gas industry before joining Alberta
Energy Company in 1975 during the start-up of the company’s operations.
Mr. Morgan was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of AEC in
January 1994. Mr. Morgan is a founding Governor of the Canadian
Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) and a past President of the
Independent Petroleum Association of Canada (IPAC), where he was heavily
involved in the discussions that ended the National Energy Program. Mr.
Morgan is a Director of the HSBC Bank Canada, a Director of the Business
Council on National Issues, and a Trustee of The Fraser Institute. He
also serves as Honourary Colonel of 410 Tactical Fighter Squadron,
Canadian Air Force. Mr. Morgan’s past involvement as a member of the
Minister’s Committee on the development and implementation of high
school science programs in Alberta reflects his long-standing concern
that Canadian students be given the foundation necessary to compete in a
global economy. Past community activities include membership on the
Board of Management of the Calgary Foothills Hospital and Foundation;
co-Chair, Calgary Fundraising Committee for the Northern Alberta
Children’s Health Center; a principal fundraiser for the Calgary Eau
Claire YMCA, the Western Heritage Center and the Rick Hansen ‘Man in
Motion tour. Other past contributions include Director of the Public
Policy Forum, member of the University of Alberta Business Advisory
Council, Director of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, member of the
Mayor’s Advisory Council on Economic Development for the City of
Calgary, and Director of the Alberta Paraplegic Association.
