During the last 17 years RICHARD M. SCRUSHY, Chairman, CEO and Founder
of HEALTHSOUTH Corporation, has successfully developed HEALTHSOUTH from
an idea into the nation’s premier healthcare provider, with more than
2,000 locations in all 50 states, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada,
and Puerto Rico. Mr. Scrushy serves as Chairman of the Board and Chief
Executive Officer of HEALTHSOUTH. With his vision, HEALTHSOUTH has
become the nation’s undisputed leader in outpatient surgery, diagnostics
and rehabilitative healthcare services. Since 1984, HEALTHSOUTH has
grown to a company with more than $4 billion in revenues and an
enterprise value of approximately $8 billion. These achievements have
earned HEALTHSOUTH a spot in the S&P 500, the Fortune 500, and the
Forbes 500. Mr. Scrushy graduated from the University of Alabama at
Birmingham in 1974 and taught for over two years in its School of Health
Related Professions. Today, he holds Honorary Doctorates from Troy State
University, Birmingham-Southern College and the University of Alabama,
and continues to guest lecture at the University of Alabama at
Birmingham, Samford University, the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa,
Auburn University, Troy State University, the Darden School of Business,
The Kellogg School of Business, the Harvard School of Public Health, the
Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt and public schools. Mr.
Scrushy sits on numerous public and civic boards, including the Business
Council of Alabama; the University of Alabama Board of Visitors; the
University of Alabama at Birmingham President’s Council; the Board of
Trustees of Troy State University; the Board of Trustees of Birmingham-
Southern College; the Certificate of Need Review Board for the State of
Alabama; and the American Red Cross Board of Governors. He also serves
as Chairman of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. In addition to his role
with HEALTHSOUTH, Mr. Scrushy also founded two other NYSE companies:
Capstone Capital (NYSE: CCT), now part of Healthcare Realty Trust (NYSE:
HR), and Caremark Rx, Inc. (NYSE: CMX), formerly known as MedPartners.
