Pierre Jungels

DR PIERRE JUNGELS has been Chief Executive of Enterprise Oil, an
independent British exploration and production company, since 1st
January 1997. He was educated at the University of Liege in Belgium,
obtaining a Degree in Engineering Geology in 1967 and at CALTECH (the
California Institute of Technology) where he achieved a PhD in
Geophysics and Hydraulics in 1973. He began his career in 1973 as a
Petroleum Engineer with Shell, working offshore Sarawak. A year later he
joined Petrofina in Brussels as a Reservoir Engineer and in 1975 Pierre
was assigned to Fina in Angola as District Manager of the north. In 1977
he took up the position of General Manager & Chief Executive before
leaving in 1980 to become Managing Director & Chief Executive of Fina
Plc in the UK. From 1986-1988 he was the first non-British President of
the Institute of Petroleum. In 1989 he was awarded an honorary CBE. The
same year he was appointed Executive Director, Downstream, with the
Petrofina Group in Brussels. He remained with the group until 1995, his
last position being Executive Director, Exploration & Production. In
1996 Pierre joined British Gas as Managing Director, Exploration and
Production. From 1997-1999 Pierre was Chairman of The Centre for Marine
and Petroleum Technology.
