Dr. Wald: We cover companies in the cardiovascular, neurological, and orthopedics markets. That's our focus today. We also have another medical technology analyst who is beginning to look at companies in other markets including women's health, urology, peripheral vascular disease, and diagnostics.
TWST: Why don't we start with the cardio space? What's going on there
from a development point of view at this juncture?
Dr. Wald: One of the issues facing the cardio companies is what to do
after drug-eluting stents. The issue facing the companies that it is a
fairly penetrated market in the US and an under-penetrated market in
Europe, but one that we don't think is going to be penetrated very
quickly. So, from what was a very fast growing market opportunity for
the companies, the DES market now seems to be becoming something that
looks past its prime and more of a commodity market than anything else.
