Mr. Gerra: I currently cover 12 names: communication-centric Texas Instruments Analog Devices (ADI), Fairchild Semiconductor (FCS) and ON Semiconductor (ONNN); in memory, SanDisk (SNDK); in the programmable logic space, Xilinx (XLNX), Altera (ALTR) and Lattice Semiconductor (LSCC). I also have coverage of several pure play consumer electronic names ' OmniVision Technologies (OVTI), Silicon Image (SIMG) and Sigma Designs (SIGM).
TWST: In general terms, how would you describe the state of the industry
at this point?
Mr. Gerra: We saw 2005 end on a strong note. Q4 was pretty strong across
the board. People are now focused on the inventory level. There was a
little bit of inventory replenishing taking place in the month of
January, which would be the normal trend post-Christmas. Nevertheless,
we think people are going to watch the trends carefully for the months
of February and March in order to determine the trends for the second
quarter. Our view for all of 2006 is generally positive. We think that,
even though there might be some inventory replenishment in Q1, it will
be coming off of historically low levels at the end of 2005, and we
continue to see some healthy demand ' specifically for mobile phone
applications.
