TWST: Give us an idea of your coverage in information technology and
services. Mr. Eichler: In general, we cover one of three types of companies. The
first type helps businesses manage their internal customer and prospect
data. The second is companies that own and sell data for risk mitigation
and marketing purposes. The third is analytics and decisioning
companies. To put these areas into perspective, we cover companies such
as Acxiom (ACXM) that help businesses build and maintain large-scale
databases. Its services include data cleansing, data quality and data
integration. An example of an information owner would be Equifax (EFX),
which is one of the three primary consumer credit bureaus, and sells
data for risk mitigation and marketing purposes. Another example would
be Dun & Bradstreet (DNB), which sells risk mitigation and marketing
information for businesses, or infoUSA (IUSA), which primarily sells
marketing information on domestic businesses. In the analytics and
decisioning area, Fair Isaac (FIC) is a company that stands out. Based
on revenues, it is a leading provider of analytics and decisioning
systems to many industries but is best known in the financial services
marketplace. One of the major trends that we're seeing within our entire
coverage universe is that everyone is trying to move up the value chain
by adding analytics and decisioning to their existing data and data
management offerings. TWST: Is that the top of the chain? Mr. Eichler: The way that we stack it, it is. We start with data at the
bottom, then have data integration and data quality on top of that and
then, finally, analytic and decisioning on top of that, because you're
really trying to put that on top of all the data you have to help make
more intelligent decisions or to improve the consistency of decisions
you are making.
