TWST: Give us a brief history of your operation and an overview of what
you do. Mr. Sturken (Chairman, President & CEO): Spartan, traditionally, for
many years was a grocery co-op. And they were the market leader in the
State of Michigan. Spartan's primary business was to provide wholesale
groceries and perishables, meat, produce, dairy, frozen food to
independent supermarket operators. TWST: How much of your business actually is wholesale and how much of
your business is retail? Mr. Sturken: Today 55% of our business is wholesale distribution and 45%
of our business is grocery retail business that we own and operate. TWST: In the retail area, what is your signature brand? And give us a
sense of the geographic areas of your operation. Mr. Sturken: We own Glen's, which is a chain of 34 supermarkets in
northern Michigan. We own and operate Family Fare, which is a 20-store
operation in western Michigan, primarily Grand Rapids. And then we own a
business called The Pharm, a 21-store discount drug business, primarily
in Toledo, Ohio.
