TWST: Give us a brief history of Reitman and an overview of your
company's operations. Mr. Reitman: The company was founded in 1926 as a ladies apparel
retailer. It was a family business, by four brothers, my father, Jack
Reitman, being the youngest of four brothers. It started as a family
business in the ladies wear retail business and grew through internal
growth over the years. The company went public on the Montreal exchange
in 1948 and has been public since that date. Today we trade on the
Toronto Stock Exchange, where we have been listed since 1965. And the
company is growing; today we are operating approximately 50 stores in
six distinct divisions throughout Canada. TWST: What is the range of merchandise? Mr. Reitman: First of all, perhaps I should describe the different
divisions, the first being stores called Reitmans, which consists of
approximately 350 stores. It's basically popular price ladies apparel
stores averaging 4,100 square feet with a large assortment of fashion
and accessories for the woman of today. The second group of stores we
call Smart Set, which is comprised of 162 stores throughout Canada. They
average 2,000 square feet, offering fashion to junior customers 15 to 30
years old, again popular price clothing and accessories. The third group
is a smaller chain called RW & Co., which is 40% men's and 60% women's,
comprised of lifestyle, junior, sportswear, city wear and accessories.
We have 66 Thyme Maternity stores. Thyme is Canada's largest specialty
retailer of maternity wear, averaging about 2,000 square feet at popular
to moderate price points. We have Penningtons, which is a plus-size
store in basically the strip and power centers. They average 6,200

comprises about 175 stores in both malls and non-malls, again somewhat
