TWST: We would like to begin with a brief historical sketch of Ventana
Medical and a picture of the things you are doing at the present time.
Mr. Massarany: Dr. Thomas Grogan was a practicing pathologist at the
University of Arizona when he founded Ventana more than 20 years ago on
the strength of his vision for automating the manual IHC staining
process. In 1985, Ventana launched its first instrument and reagent
system and went public in 1996 to raise capital to fund further
research. Today, we're a global organization providing healthcare
professionals with superior automated instrument and reagent systems
that standardize and speed slide staining in support of identifying
treatment solutions.
TWST: Has anybody attempted to catch up with you?
Mr. Massarany: While we have a number of competitors, we believe we are
unique in our focus on providing end to end automated processing and
patient information management solutions. We call it laboratory workflow
or workcell automation and while many of our competitors are investing
in the automation of individual workcells, we believe Ventana has a
leading position in automating across workcells and then integrating
that automation into a total workflow solution for the histology lab.
