TWST: Would you give us a brief historical sketch of the company and a
picture of the things that you are doing at the present time? Mr. Ling: You can trace the history of the company back to the
establishment of Vernitron in 1959, which was renamed Axsys in 1996. The
company built a pedigree around designing and manufacturing high
precision motion control components such as DC motors for demanding
applications. In the last few years, we have grown significantly in
high-end optical systems such as long-range infrared surveillance
systems, and we are now building complete systems in addition to
individual components. Approximately 70% of our revenues come from
aerospace and defense markets while the remaining 30% is commercial
business. A major focus now is homeland security, particularly
surveillance systems for border patrol and critical facilities such as
airports and ports. TWST: Do you sell principally to OEMs in the aerospace and defense area? Mr. Ling: Yes, we typically sell primarily to the prime contractors in
the aerospace and defense world, such as Raytheon, BAE Systems, and
Northrop Grumman. However, we are increasingly working directly with the
military and Department of Homeland Security, as our products have
evolved into more complete solutions.
