TWST: We would like to begin with a brief historical sketch of Mobius
and a picture of the things you're doing at the present time.
Mr. Gross: We're celebrating our 25th year in business, and we're going
into our ninth year as a public company. Mobius was founded in 1981 to
provide software that helps companies manage huge volumes of information
from the moment it is created until it is no longer needed and to
deliver it over the Internet and over corporate networks to customers,
partners and employees in support of business-critical operations.
TWST: Did you found the company yourself?
Mr. Gross: I co-founded the company with Joe Albracht.
TWST: What was in your minds at that time?
Mr. Gross: A couple of things. One, computer systems continued to grow.
You've got to think back to 1981 when people were still groping with the
computerized world. PCs were a concept and Apple was a company, but
neither was taken very seriously. We realized that people were going to
create vast amounts of information, and the key to success for
corporations was going to be the ability to efficiently deliver that
information to applications and users. We worked on a couple of projects
for public and private-sector organizations doing exactly that, figuring
out how to move information from creation to usage. We realized that
there would be a large amount of information and a large number of users
that would need access, and we decided to develop software that would
facilitate that.
